UK Angel Investor Statistics 2026
Published March 2026 · Data from Companies House
Original research analysing 84,000+ UK companies and 12,400+ scored investors to reveal the true state of angel investing in the UK.
The Power Law of Angel Investing
Our analysis confirms the power law distribution in UK angel investing. From 12,414 investors with multiple directorships:
Just 4% of serial directors qualify as super angels — backing 5+ companies with a score above 60%. These individuals are the backbone of UK early-stage funding, yet they're invisible in traditional databases.
Methodology
This report analyses data from the Companies House public API, processing officer appointments, PSC registers, and company records for UK companies incorporated since 2010.
Investor identification: We identify serial directors — individuals who appear as officers of 2+ companies — and cross-reference their full appointment history to build portfolio maps.
Scoring: Each investor receives a composite score (0-100) based on: portfolio size (30%), company success rate (25%), multi-round investment signals (20%), recency (15%), and sector focus (10%).
Limitations: Companies House data reflects directorship, not investment. Not all directors are investors. Our scoring algorithm uses heuristics to filter formation agents and identify genuine angel investors.
